Lotion Pump Specifications Every Bulk Buyer Should Confirm
When two lotion pumps look almost identical, their internal specifications can still be very different.
For large orders, buyers should avoid selecting a pump from photos alone.
A proper technical specification should cover the following areas.
Neck Finish
Common screw-neck lotion pumps may use specifications such as:
- 24/410
- 24/415
- 28/400
- 28/410
- 28/415
Availability varies by manufacturer.
The first number generally refers to the nominal neck diameter, while the second relates to the thread finish standard.
That distinction is important.
A 28/410 pump and a 28/415 pump are not automatically interchangeable.
Pump Output
Output should be stated as an approximate volume per full stroke.
Depending on the design, commonly encountered lotion-pump outputs may include:
0.5 mL
1.0 mL
1.5 mL
2.0 mL
2.5 mL
3.0 mL+
Bulk buyers should request the actual technical data for the chosen model.
Actuation Force
The consumer should be able to operate the pump comfortably.
If actuation force is too high, repeated use becomes tiring.
If it is too low, the pump can feel unstable and may be more susceptible to accidental activation.
Actuation force should be evaluated together with formula viscosity.
Viscosity Capability
There is no single viscosity value that applies to every lotion pump.
Internal channel dimensions, valve structure and spring force all influence performance.
For thicker formulations, test:
- initial priming
- output
- pump return
- repeated actuation
- performance after storage
Temperature testing can also be valuable because viscosity changes with temperature.
Dip Tube Specification
The dip tube should be cut according to bottle height and internal shape.
Key parameters include:
- tube outside diameter
- wall thickness
- material
- cut angle
- tube length
An angled cut can help reduce the chance of the tube sealing flat against the bottle base.
Locking System
For commercial packaging, common options include:
Up-lock
The actuator locks in the raised position.
Down-lock
The actuator locks after being pressed downward.
Each has different implications for packaging height and shipping.
Leakage Testing
Large-volume buyers should agree on a leakage test method.
Possible conditions include:
- upright storage
- horizontal storage
- inverted storage
- vacuum or pressure simulation
- temperature cycling
- transport vibration
A leak-free sample at room temperature does not guarantee leak-free export packaging.
Decoration and Color
Custom pump colors are normally produced using masterbatch, coating or decorative components.
For B2B programs, specify:
- Pantone or approved color reference
- gloss/matte requirement
- master sample
- acceptable color difference
- logo method if required
A Good RFQ Is a Technical Document
Instead of sending:
Need 500,000 lotion pumps. Quote best price.
A stronger inquiry would include:
Product: Body lotion
Formula: Medium viscosity
Bottle neck: 24/410
Required output: Approximately 2 mL
Lock: Down-lock
Color: Custom white
Dip tube: To match 250 ml bottle
Annual quantity: 800,000 pcs
Market: US/EU
Sampling required before production
That level of information allows the manufacturer to quote the correct pump rather than simply the cheapest pump.
