How to Choose the Right Plastic Bottle
Choosing a plastic bottle should begin with what the package needs to do.
Appearance matters, but performance comes first.
Define the Product Application
A 100 ml cosmetic mist has very different packaging requirements from a 750 ml household cleaner.
Start by defining bottle capacity, product category and how the consumer will use the package.
Select the Material
PET, HDPE and other plastics offer different characteristics.
The correct material depends on formulation, transparency requirements, rigidity, appearance and manufacturing considerations.
Confirm the Dispensing System
If the bottle will use a pump or trigger sprayer, the neck finish should be confirmed together with the closure.
This prevents a common problem: selecting an attractive bottle first and discovering later that the desired pump does not fit.
Consider Bottle Stability
Lotion pumps and foam pumps require downward force during use.
The bottle should therefore remain stable when the consumer presses the actuator.
Trigger sprayer bottles need a shape that is comfortable to grip.
Plan Decoration Early
Color, silk-screen printing, labeling and other decoration can influence bottle design and production.
These requirements should be discussed before final sampling.
Test the Finished Package
Bottle, pump, formula and closure should be tested together.
The objective is not simply to confirm that components assemble correctly, but that the finished package performs during filling, transportation and use.
